One a day: Somewhere over the rainbow...

At the beginning of my hexipuff journey, I'd never thought I would last. Of course I had to join the crowd in making these little hexies, but they would probably end up as a pillow and nothing more. 

Then more hexies were made and I started asking myself what my goal was. Lots of knitters asked me the same thing; what I was making with these cute little squishe thingies? I had more than enough for a pillow so I wanted to make something bigger, so I got this idea:

A mini quilt so I can sit in the window! Wouldn't that be awesome?

But then I realized something....

This is a pretty cute idea, but....

.....I already have enough for hexies for this idea and I'm not ready to give up knitting them! 

Look at all the colours...

There is no way I am calling this a FO yet! It will turn in a gorgeous quilt of at least 400 hexies! Yep, you are going to see them some more. I am so in love with this project, and it is perfect for summer knitting. No big bulky project on your lap, just your tiny DPN's and a little skein of sock yarn. 

Speaking of sock yarn...

I dyed another miniskein after being inspired by this post at Pumpkin spins, rainbow style. I don't know why I never did, it turned out very cute and bright. I can't wait to knit it into a hexie.

FO Friday: First knitted hat

Hello lovelies,

I got another FO done (my there are a lot small projects lately). I won't rambe a lot in this post and go straight to some pictures! 

If you have been around on WIP wednesday you have already seen some of the hat in progress. This hat was super fast to knit and I'm all fired up to make some more hats! 

It is a slouchy hat, but if you roll the edge you could also wear it as a normal hat.

I feel like a real rasta girl haha.

Pattern: Graham by Jennifer Adams

Yarn: Carina by Wibra

Needles: circular needles 4.0 mm and 5.0 mm after ribbing

Pattern notes: great pattern, no changes made. 

Made for: My sister in law.

Too bad this is a gift, I kinda love this hat now :p. Guess I'll have to make a new one. 

Good thing hats are so fast, I love this type of project. You can take it with you at any time and it is great to loose some stash! Yep, there will be some more hats for sure. Is it wrong to think about Christmas gifts in Summer? 

WIP Wearable Wednesday

For me yarn started off as a hobby, something to make things like blankets, tea cozies, little crochet amigurumi but not wearable projects. 

I thought a knitted sweater was outdated, old fashion and not flattering at all. But the more I got into knitting, the more I started to appreciate a handmade garment. I finally realized that a handmade item can be both a joy to make as well as a to wear. There is nothing better than to choose your own colours, the perfect pattern and the perfect material. 

Lately when browsing the Ravelry pattern page (which I try to as little as I can, since I tend to forget time completely), I notice that I eyeball mostly sweaters, hats, scarves, etc. 

So when my sister in law graduated I knew I had to make her something wearable. 

You can probably guess what it is right? A little hat! 

You knit this project inside out, so from this side it looks like a normal rib pattern. But from the inside in looks like this:

Little bumps made by a broken rib pattern (which is knitting one row and k1, p1 on the next assuming that you would also work inside out). 

The yarn is some old yarn from a local chain store Wibra (probably only know by the Dutch) which is perfect for this little project. I enjoy making this project so much, I know there will follow many more hats!

The pattern for this hat is a free pattern called Graham by Jennifer Adams and so far I enjoy knitting this pattern. The hardest part will now start, neatly decrease the stitches and closing it up. I hope to present the end result on Friday :-).
