WIP Wednesday - Peacock scarf

I'm finally participating again with the fun of WIP-Wednesday. My project for this week is one that I have been working on for a loooong long time now. I put it in a basket and the thing that got me to get it on the needle again was this beautiful peacock that I made at the petting zoo a while ago. We were very lucky that it stroke a pose for us so I could take this stunning picture. 

The project I'm talking about is this one:

Pattern: Favorite Scarf Ever

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock yarn

By far not as bold and colourful as the peacock, but still so gorgeous and soft. 

It's almost done, I only have to weave in some ends and block one part and then it's done!!!

Next to this project I made a little bow for my furry friend:

I made it to support the national soccer team that will be playing tonight in the European championship. If they don't win, they'll be eliminated! 

If you want to make one for your dog check out this pattern, it's not the same as mine but very similar. I just improvised mine and I was too lazy to write down notes. 

I put a little piece of elastic on the back to attach it to my dogs collar.

WIP Wednesday: A little game

This week has been all about a knit project, my first big knit project. Apart from scarf and mittens I never knit anything wearable. But of course my 65% alpaca yarn deserves something that is worn in what should be a horror winter. All kind of scientists and experts predicted a winter with freezing temperatures. Snow and ice were to be expected.

So far the experts couldn’t have been more wrong. Winter has been far from horror this year; it’s more of a second autumn. That is, without bright autumn colors. Instead we have misty blue and grey and rain, lots of rain. So much rain that part of Holland were threatened to flood. Dykes were strengthened and sandbags were placed. Luckily the water level dropped and all was well. 

Although this horror winter hasn’t shown up yet, no need to despair. I still hope to see some winter wonderlands in January or even February. So to be fully prepared for long walks in the snow and icy forests, I am making a delightful winter project. 

This is a close-up of the project I am making of my yammy alpaca yarn. Can you guess which project it will be? I think some of you might recognize it. It is almost done and I hope to share a finished project with you this week. 

A little more about the yarn; I use to buy a lot of acrylic yarn. Just recently I bought my first wool and now my first alpaca wool. It seems alpaca’s smell wonderful, the dog is intrigued by it. Normally he totally ignores all the yarn lying around, but not this time. He wants to have it, all for himself.  I made a little clip of him so you could see him in “action” together with Mr. Boyfriend.

Hairy sewing project

Hello lovelies,

After a period of silence here in the city I return to you with a sewing project. My sewing machine was starting to collect dust and thus it was time to start using it again! And what better than a project with a purpose, namely keeping the doggy of the couch by making a dog pillow he could not resist!

 Every time he snuggles on the couch dreaming of other dogs and treats, leaving a huge amount of spiky hairs on the creamy sofa. Mostly when Mr. L. and I are not around and when we return, he looks at us with the biggest puppy eyes trying to say: “It wasn’t me” . Puck gave those exact same eyes when I put the pillow on the ground and he instantly claimed it. “Ooooh please master, can I please have it?”

 Well, I guess he likes it pretty bad haha. And the best thing is that I made it from left over fabric with little stars and some felt and wool for embroidery. It didn’t cost a dime. If you also have a dog claiming the couch here some directions of how to make it:

1. Get two pieces of fabric
2. Cut two pieces of 80 x 60 cm's, these will be the top and the bottom of the pillow.
3. Cut two pieces of 60 x 20 cm's and two pieces of 80 x 20 cm's in the other colour fabric.
4. Put the embroidery on the top. In my case I did my dog's name in cross stitches and a felt bone filled with a little stuffing. 
5. First pin and sew all the sides to the top of the pillow.
6. Now pin and sew all the sides together to form some kind of container. 
7. Pin the bottom of the pillow and sew all the sides except for one. 
8. Turn the pillow inside out.
9. Fill the pillow with what ever stuffing you like. Mine is filled with polyester stuffing. 
10. Close the pillow, you can also add a zipper but I choose not to.

As you can see, I used a embroidery hoop. I found it very helpful. I also ironed the fabric before using it. I think it turned out a bit messy in the corners (they don't precisely line up), but fortunately Puck couldn't care less.

Back from a rainy getaway

Hello lovelies!

I've been enjoying a little getaway with Mr. L. and family. One whole week we enjoyed nature and good company. Unfortunatly, we had a lot of rain so walking times were scarce. The times we did enjoy nature were great, we even met a wild boar. I couldn't make a photo of it, since it was quite shocked by my scream * I am quite the hero haha *.

Remember this snake? I gave it to my nephew and he loved it, so it had to come with him to Ermelo. His name is now Jan de slang (John the snake). Baby bear has such lovely little hands to hold the snake! Cannot get enough of him, although the little bear is a fulltime job. So the respect for my sister in law grew even more for all the hard work and love she gives her little one. Also for my mother in law, who sparkles and smiles all day long despite a chronic lack of sleep.

We also visited the "Dolfinarium", an amusement park with marine life like dolphins and sea lions. There were some amazing shows and a lot of oooeeeehhs and aaaaaaahs. 

Despite all the great memories that we made in this wonderful week, I also missed blogland. I have a lot of catching up to do, lots of nice new posts of my favorite blogs still to be read and of course I have been busy on my own projects of which I will share more later on. It was delightful to return to our own little cottage on the eighth floor. I crawled on the couch for some cuddling and hooky time:

In between

Hello dears,

How was your monday? Mine was a bit dull to be honest. I had to work today and I could not help thinking about my crochet works that I really want to finish! I am currently working on a granny stripe blanket. I already love it, back and forth, back and forth. Sitting on my sofa with the dog on my lap and pretending to be interested in the Tour the France *Mr. L. is addicted*.

Since I will be working on this huge project, I need some small ones that are done in between! I just need some finished things in between to keep me going with the bigger ones...is that weird?

So, I also have a small project going on. Inspired by this cute little project of the well known Lucy from Attic24 I decided that I really wanted one too! I don't have the pattern, but a snake is just around and around and around until it is the size you want it to be. It is not totally done, it still needs eyes and a tongue. Yet, Puck already found it haha. So, if it is totally done I will post some color pictures. For now, just a teaser ;-).
