One a day 4: new yarn needed

Hexipuff count: 30

Yarn: all kinds of scraps, but also new yarn! A lot of Lana Grossa.

Most of these puffs are made from merino wool by Lana Grossa. The yarn is actually bought for this project, instead of a scrap. Although the grey once are made from scraps left from the yarn that I used for my cable mittens.

Do you see the yellow/green puffs on the left? This one is made from a scrap of super bulky yarn. I split the yarn to make a thinner yarn that was perfect for my puffs. Great way to use different kinds of yarns.

I also made a very tiny puff...but I'm not sure what to do with it hahahaha.

It's like a mommy and a baby puff....again...not sure what to do with this.

I think many of the colors are a bit dark and a lot of blue tones are found. I want to add some yellow, orange and lighter tones in there. But I don't have any of that in my stash. But Suzanne, you are on a yarn diet?! Yes, but I had two rules:

I have to know where the yarn is for - Hexipuffs!

I have to use it right away, not put it in a cabin gathering dust - This project in on the needles in between things, so no problem there!

So, it is of to the yarn shop today! Do you have any suggestions for colors? These are all the puffs I have right now:

  1. I love these little hexipuffs, great colours. I love how the pink adds a bit of colour maybe a bit of orange too.xxxx

  2. I love the yellow, red and pink dotted around the hexipuffs. Baby hexipuff is so cute, I don't know what you could do with it. Would it work if you stitched a baby hexipuff on another puff and dotted a few of them throughout the blanket?

  3. Ooo I love da hexipuffs! I think a bit of mossy green wool might be nice...but I am biased...i love all things green! The baby hexipuff should of course be made into a baby hexipuff blanket with some friends.. how lovely would that look on top of a little dolly's bed! :)x

  4. Gorgeous photos Suzanne and your hexipuffs are looking adorable. I don't know how you ladies have the patience to make these but I do like them a lot. I have a batch of left over sock wool from my sister that I know would be perfect for joining in the hexipuff madness but I'm not good enough at knitting!
I think green would look lovely, maybe a mossy shade.

As for the baby hexipuff, maybe you should sew some little eyes on it and make it into a keyring?

    1. Thank you! I started learning knitting because of the beekeeper's quilt. There is such a wonderful group on Ravelry (Tiny owl knits group) where everyone shares there hexipuffs and ideas for hexipuffs. I guess that's what keeps me inspired.

  5. I love the tiny puff! Don't know what you'd do with it either though!

Thanks for your comment on my "Pretty Crafty Home' post, so glad you'd like to join in! You welcome to use the little house (could you link back to my blog though please?). Although, if you fancy waiting a day or two, I'm hoping to post some 'blog buttons' for people to snag.

  8. How very clever to use bulky yarn and strip it!! What a great idea! I too am working on the Beekeeper's Quilt and I have some very fun bulky yarn that I will use for this. Thanks so much for the tip.

The itty, bitty hexi is the cutest! I like your colors and am looking forward to what you have chosen to add to them.

    1. Thank you! The splitting of the bulky can be a bit time consuming, but it is a great way to use all kinds of yarn.

  10. Great idea to split the yarn and I love your yarn-buying rules! I've had to justify buying some more too, even tho' my January austerity rules forbade any buying of yarn! I had to explain to my children yesterday why it was so necessary!! And thanks for your comment on my blog. Yes, the bunting is Lucy's and there will be letters once my cousin has her baby.
Have a great week, Judy x

  11. That baby hexipuff is just far too cute.
I'm on a yarn diet too, and have to go through a mental checklist to allow myself to buy more. Funnily enough I always talk myself into it!!
I think some hexipuffs in orange, yellow and maybe pink would mix in lovely.
